It had been widely announced that Louis Gossett Jr. would be making his first Wizard World convention appearance in Los Angeles this year and
due to his tight schedule we went in believing that it would be next to impossible to get any interview time with him.
As luck would have it upon entering the press area to check our equipment we unexpectedly had pleasure of bumping into the Academy Award
winner and his son. After introducing ourselves and talking for several minutes he granted us an interview. Lou is a very down to earth type of guy
so I threw the conventional interview style out of the window and we just talked. With over forty years in show business and possessing an extensive
resume of memorable film, television and theater credits there was a lot of ground to cover in our short time together. When our time was up I grew
to learn many things about Lou outside of his work as an actor. Like the fact that he had serious ambitions about playing professional basketball
and was even drafted by the New York Knicks. Lou Gossett Jr. is a great guy and it was a personal high point for me to have the opportunity to
speak with one of the most respected African-American actors of our time.
